Grant Godwin: It’s a Meme World Out There

Memes have become a form of communication via the world of social media. When it comes to memes they have been proven to be effective in getting the message across to their intended audience. Memes provide a unique snapshot into the cultural events of a moment in time. They have become more attractive to social media users because they are found to be comical, simple, and understandable.

Social media users tend to favor visual content over text-based content. In fact, social media users are six times as likely to remember a message if it is paired with a relevant visual rather than the text alone.

Grant Godwin, who is best known on social media under the Instagram handle “The Typical Liberal,” has perfected the craft of using memes to educate his following on hot political topics of discussion. He discussed with Politifix News how memes have become one of the quickest and easiest ways to incorporate small bites of information intended to be both humorous and informative.

As of the date of this publication Godwin has a social media following well in excess of two million and growing. He is known to have one of the largest conservative Instagram political meme pages on social media to date.

With fame comes challenges, responsibilities and of course consequences. Godwin’s public figure status for publicity expressing his conservative political views has made him a target to the opposition. However, he has not allowed the threats he has encountered to deter him away from exposing what he calls “liberal hypocrisy,” and “media bias,” if anything it has encouraged him to continue exposing what he calls “the truth the American people are entitled to.” 

Aside from being one of the most successful political meme pages on Instagram- used not only for political humor, promoting congressional candidates, and to further educate his base on hot political topics of discussion; Godwin’s proudest accomplishment according to him is finding the love of his life in the world of memes; his now fiancée, Erin Adair.

Adair also runs a political meme page on the social media platform, Instagram called “Always.Right.” As of the date of this publication Adair has a social media following of over one hundred thousand followers and growing.

Godwin’s continuous efforts to expose liberal hypocrisy and the mainstream news media bias have not gone unnoticed. On July 11, 2019, President Trump invited Godwin to the White House to attend the Social Media Summit. An event where the work of hundreds of conservative social media influencers which are daily combating the online narrative about not just his presidency, the fight for his re-election, but also fighting against conservative censorship were acknowledged by the President himself.

Godwin encourages young Americans from all walks of life to speak up now more than ever. He also encourages new upcoming political social media influencers to take a public stand and fight to expose what he calls “uncomfortable truths.”

The future is bright for this young conservative millennial advocate. Godwin is prepared for whatever the world of politics throws his way. No matter the obstacles, he chooses to continue his work as a “citizen journalist,” one who’s mission is to continue to expose “liberal lies,” through simple yet humorous memes.
