Ronda Baldwin-Kennedy, a practicing attorney, a small business owner, Dean of The American Heritage University School of Law, and mother of six is running for election to the U.S. House to represent California’s 26th Congressional District. She is on the ballot for the general election on November 3, 2020.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic Baldwin-Kennedy filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Donald McDougall of Camarillo over Ventura County’s public health order that deemed gun shops nonessential and mandated their closure. She stated that “the closure was unconstitutional and people’s rights were being violated.” She told Politifix she’s a “strict constitutionalist,” one who advocates the defense and protection of the American Constitution.

California has some of the nation’s strictest gun laws and Baldwin-Kennedy expressed how more gun laws on top of the ones California already has isn’t going to reduce or end gun crimes.

Baldwin-Kennedy has a passion to protect the second amendment rights of American citizens. She expressed to Politifix news how throughout history, regulations have been used to disarm “people of color.” As a Black American, she shares how Americans of all backgrounds should be skeptical of calls for harsher gun control being demanded by politicians in power. If elected she vows to push for repealing overly restrictive gun laws that prevent vulnerable citizens from protecting themselves.

Politifix questioned Baldwin-Kennedy on her stance on the BLM movement and police brutality:

“Inner city violence is the leading cause of homicide, not police shootings. If Black lives really mattered to politicians they would address inner-city violence more vigorously rather than deflect,” expressed Baldwin-Kennedy.

Baldwin-Kennedy’s uncle was murdered, her mother was shot, and the family’s business has been robbed at gunpoint more times than she can remember.

“It wasn’t the police doing it but rather – someone that looked like me.” stated Baldwin-Kennedy and further stated why it’s one of her many reasons for being an advocate for the second amendment.

Baldwin-Kennedy pointed out that California -the state that claims to be so progressive has never even had a Black female in the state legislature.  She is the Dean of the only black-owned law school in California. Her grandfather was the first Black State Assemblyman in Wisconsin and her great-great grandfather was a runaway slave that joined the union army. She honors their history by being a fighter and standing up for herself but most importantly standing up for what is right. Which is why she cannot side with a party that conditions minorities to be victims and continuously promotes government dependency over individual freedom.
